Step inside one of Denmark’s most important historic buildings and discover the grandeur of Christiansborg Palace, a unique landmark that serves as the home of the Danish Parliament, the Supreme Court, and the Prime Minister’s Office, while also continuing to play an important role in the life of the Danish Royal Family.

Your visit includes access to the magnificent Royal Reception Rooms, which are still used by the monarchy for official ceremonies and state events. Explore the elegant Tower Room and the Oval Throne Room, where the Danish monarch traditionally receives foreign ambassadors. The Throne Room also provides access to the famous balcony from which new Danish monarchs are officially proclaimed to the public.

One of the highlights of the palace is the spectacular Great Hall, home to the renowned Queen’s Tapestries. These extraordinary works of art were presented to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II as a gift from the Danish business community on the occasion of her 50th birthday in 1990. Designed by celebrated Danish artist Bjørn Nørgaard and woven by skilled craftsmen, the eleven tapestries illustrate more than 1,000 years of Danish history, creating a stunning visual journey through the nation’s past.

The Royal Reception Rooms are also used by the Prime Minister of Denmark for meetings with visiting heads of state, while the elegant Alexandra Hall serves as the venue for official state banquets and royal celebrations.

Your visit continues at the historic Royal Stables, founded in 1740 and among the few surviving parts of King Christian IV’s original Baroque palace. Once home to as many as 250 royal horses, the stables played a vital role in transporting members of the royal family throughout the kingdom. Today, around 20 horses remain in service and continue to participate in royal ceremonies. During major events, such as New Year receptions at Christiansborg Palace, the Queen’s magnificent gold carriage is still drawn by these impressive white horses.

The Royal Stables Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into centuries of royal transportation. Here, visitors can admire a collection of historic carriages used by Danish kings and queens. Highlights include the lavish Gold Coach from 1840, decorated with 24-carat gold leaf, and the elegant State Coach of Queen Dowager Juliane Marie, dating back to 1778.

This fascinating visit provides a unique insight into Danish royal traditions, state ceremonies, and the rich history of one of Copenhagen’s most iconic palaces.
